Terms of Service

1. Scope and provider

These terms apply to accounts on hosted Roastbook at app.roastbook.coffee (the “service”). They do not apply to the public website, its guides and tools, or to Roastbook installations you run yourself from the open-source code. The service is provided by:

2. The service

Roastbook is a coffee journal for recording beans, brews, recipes, gear, and café visits. The service is currently free of charge. We are still developing it, so features may change, be added, or be removed. Free allowances, such as included AI requests or image storage, are offered voluntarily and may be changed.

3. Your account

• You must be at least 16 years old and use the service for yourself. An account belongs to one person.
• You sign in with codes sent to your email address or with a passkey. Keep your email account and devices secure, and tell us promptly if you suspect misuse.
• Keep your email address current so you can sign in and receive important notices.

4. Your content

Your journal entries, notes, and pictures remain yours. You grant us the non-exclusive right to store, process, and display them only as far as needed to provide the service to you, including backups, image compression, and features you choose to use. Your journal is private; we do not publish it.

You can export your data as an archive and delete your account at any time in the account settings. Only upload content you have the right to use.

5. Acceptable use

• Do not upload unlawful content or content that infringes the rights of others.
• Do not attack, overload, or probe the service, or try to access other accounts or circumvent limits, such as the number or size of pictures.
• Automated access is permitted only through the interfaces we provide, such as the MCP integration and device tokens, and within their limits.

6. AI features

AI features are optional. If you connect your own AI provider, your requests and the journal data and pictures you choose to send go to that provider under your own agreement with it, and it may charge you. Where we offer included AI requests, they are limited and may be changed or ended. AI output can be wrong; check it before relying on it.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, security incidents, or provider outages may interrupt it. If we decide to end the service, we will tell you at least 30 days in advance by email so you can export your data.

8. Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches these terms, after a warning unless the breach makes that unreasonable. When an account is deleted, we delete its journal, pictures, and account data as described in the Privacy Notice.

9. Liability

Because the service is provided free of charge, we are liable only for intent and gross negligence. This limitation does not apply to injury to life, body, or health, to liability under the German Product Liability Act, or to fraudulently concealed defects. Keep your own copy of anything important using the export function.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when features or legal requirements change. We will tell you about material changes before they take effect and ask you to accept the new version in the app. The version and date at the top identify the current terms.

11. Governing law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
